Restaurant Signs: Attracting New And Loyal Diners Using Yard Signs

Most restaurant owners focus on marketing to diners using off-site promotional tools such as Internet ads,TV and radio commercials, and even billboards. While these are certainly effective ways to advertise, they’re also quite expensive. On a slightly-smaller,but certainly more-affordable,exposure scale is the yard sign. They can be used by restaurant owners in a variety of ways, but the goal is to reach hungry diners who are already in the area and to drive them into your restaurant.

  1. Coming Soon-While your restaurant is being built (or even remodeled),start using signage to generate buzz and awareness. Place a large lawn sign in front of your building that shows shoppers what’s coming. Make sure to list a rough date of when you’ll be opening so that you can start booking reservations if necessary,or at least get the community excited about the opening of your restaurant.
  2. Specials-Since yard signs are so cheap,it’s easy to order one for every special that you promote. Order a sign stand like an a-frame,which can easily be switched out with a yard sign featuring your lunch specials,Happy Hour times, and dinner menu. In addition,if you have a holiday promotion,or you’re looking to promote gift cards, displaying signs around your yard gets attention of drivers and guides them into your store.
  3. New Menu-Every restaurant releases new menu items,or even brings back popular seasonal items. Make sure your loyal diners know about this by spotlighting your new items on your yard signage. Have a photographer capture high-resolution images of your delicious food for display on your signs-this is sure to get your customers’ mouths watering!
  4. Valet Parking-If your restaurant offers valet parking, you’ll need to have a special yard sign mounted near the entrance to the valet area letting diners know. Since this is (likely) a permanent service, use a long-lasting metal sign (as opposed to corrugated plastic). This looks more-elegant and distinguished anyway.
  5. To-Go Pickup Entrance-You’ll also want to display signs directing customers to the to-go pickup entrance of your restaurant. If you have parking spaces reserved for to-go customers, print aluminum parking signs to mount on a post in front of that section letting your patrons know. Restaurant parking lots can sometimes be a bit tight,so use directional signs to help keep things clear.
